About

Gynaecomastia or enlargement of the male breasts can occur as a result of puberty growth spurt, hormonal imbalance or the side effect of taking certain medications such as anabolic steroids. However, in the majority of cases, there is no known cause. The enlargement may be from excess glandular tissue, fat or both. For men who are conscious of their enlarged breasts, breast reduction surgery will help. This can be achieved with minimal scars through liposuction.

What does the surgery involve?

The fat in gynaecomastia can be removed by liposuction through a small 5mm incision. This surgery can be done under twilight sedation as an outpatient procedure.

How is the post–operative recovery?

There may be swelling and bruising which is minimised by using the new Vaser liposuction technique. You will be required to wear a chest binder for 2 weeks. Sutures are removed in 10 days.

What are the post op problems?

There may be a permanent change of nipple sensation. The incision scars will usually settle in most patients. Creams and silicone gel sheets may have to be prescribed to allow the scar to settle down.
